About me

Hi. My name is Deva Watson and I am a professional server and art teacher at Princeton day school, a independent school in princeton, new jersey.

Working in the restaurant industry for most of my life, I’ve developed a huge respect for chefs and the culinary arts. It's inspired me to run my art classroom like a kitchen, using the same structural hierarchies found in most professional kitchens. My students call me chef, and they are my sous chefs and line cooks. This structure provides discipline in my classroom and teaches students about real-world job expectations and situations.

I believe the restaurant industry is full of the hardest working people you will ever meet.

I am the co-creator of Fresh Artists 'Palates to Palettes', a project that allows students from underprivileged neighborhoods to experience fine art and culinary art and learn how both fields are similar and fulfilling. I am a world traveler, and won’t be satisfied until I see every part of it. I dedicated months volunteering abroad in Africa and the Middle East. I aspire to improve how I teach, curriculum content, and knowledge in a variety of visual art forms.

I am hard-working, dedicated, and want to continue to inspire positive change through my art classroom and beyond.
